The question that occasionally pops up in interactions with new people we meet. They want to know who you are, but is it on a deeper level? is it in regards to profession and education? or is it simply to spark a conversation? It’s rather ineffective if it’s the last idea. My mind goes into chaotic thoughts, trying to latch onto any thought that confirms who I am, and I always end up being confused what to answer.
“Give me some time to get to know you, and I’ll show you everything” would probably be a fitting answer.
Being a person of mystery is better than thinking “I am not good enough” or “I’m a boring person”. Quite honestly, we don’t know ourselves really well. And we are always changing. Sometimes we surprise ourselves what we’re really capable of doing, for better or for worse.
There is something fundamental about who we are that can be pinpointed. Such as the character we’ve shown since we were born, the traits we have in common with the rest of the family which means it’s more engraved than our newer changes and the taste we have for things that just won’t fade.
A good practice to do for a fulfilling life and progression into our career, goals and targets goes as follows. Knowing what we are bad at, brings the awareness where we’ll likely give ourselves hurdles, where we’ll probably ruin for ourselves.
Knowing what you’re good at is where we shouldn’t compromise and put less emphasis. This is where we excel and thrive, it is where we impress and compete. If we only had this side and not our weaknesses, we could be unstoppable.
We have to know and to use our strengths and we have to be aware of our weaknesses, and fight to win when we’re getting dragged down into a pit, by our own weaknesses.
Know what we want, what we want to avoid, what we like, what we dislike, what works for us and what doesn’t, what do we need, what can’t we live without, what do we need as a focus, what’s our quirks, where do we come from and what’s our personality like. This is the part of who we are that can teach us so many things about life. Not our titles, dating profiles, reputation or financial strength that on the surface seems like who we are. Not even our knowledge is who we are. It just says something about what we like to learn about, that’s it. Knowing yourself is nothing but a mere knowledge either, it’s just observation through experience.
Everyone has these intricate systems within that shows who they really are. Know thyself.
