Welcome back to the blog.
So, me, my wife and the family visited Bukit Lawang near Berastagi in North Sumatra to do forest trekking. The experience was absolutely magical because of a number of reasons. One of the most notable was that we were lucky enough to see all the wild animals we wanted to see. Can’t complain about tubbing down the river back to the lodge afterwards. Here are some photos.
The Sumatran Orangutan has a about 2/3 the weight of the Bornean counterparts and has more of an orange hair tone that we all associate with the orangutan. They should’ve called them “Orangeutan”. A Fun fact about its name: Orang Utan means “The forest people” in the Indonesian language. “Orange Utan” would then mean “Orange Forest”. Doesn’t make sense with that name anymore.

Next up is Thomas’s langurs monkey, also known as the black-leaf monkey. Very adorable, very lively. Also a unique variant specifically to the island of Sumatra.

The Great argus, just like the others are found in other parts of South East Asia but has its own unique traits in Sumatra.
