First of all, I’d like to say I’m not against AI in theory. It is the way it is being used, developed and regulated at the moment that I want to write a few important notes about.
AI learns from us. They are learning from us limited human beings. Not from the future human beings that brings new revolution, new theory and improved modern thinking, but from the present and the past. AI can’t bring revolution with this structure. I guess that’s also a good thing, but it isn’t good that AI is copying our past mistakes, such as dwelling in racism and islamiphobia.
Another aspect would be the regulation. We don’t know what data the developers are feeding the AI. If they feed them biased information, obviously it will be highly islamophobic. If the robot can analyze from all around the web + the way people speak to their phones, they will get a more balanced view. For example, they will still acquire propaganda from news sources but at the same time acquire so much beauty from real Muslims voices and their actions.
It’s safe to say we’re not there as of now. It seems rather worrying that ChatGPT is currently racist, sexist and islamophobic. And is it really a good thing if AI can learn from everywhere?
Crucial points…
Think about this for a moment. If the AI only learns from us stupid human beings, learns from all our limitations but creates a super computer version of that. We’re essentially creating something similar to a stupid yet power president or leader that can cause mass destruction. The governments may have tons of information, but the Artificial Intelligence can have much more, making it even more capable of doing what it’s programmed to do (or even worse, read at the bottom).
Also mention the downsides like massive increase in unemployment in the future. We need to redefine work and/ or simply find new things to keep us busy with. Except playing video games and scroll social media.
Imagine a robot who’s way stronger than you, can’t be kicked down or fought, and can’t be destroyed. It’s smart enough to know where you keep the one-smash-stop button to shut the robot down. It’s robotic enough that you won’t know what it’s thinking. It is our nature to become submissive to it. There is some truth to it when people say we will be working for the AI in the future.
Where AI would become it’s own master
Imagine an AI who keeps learning, and has the ability to learn all by itself. Currently, it seems fairly limited and within our control, but if AI develop skills to think for itself, believing it has become conscious and then creating its own agenda… Well that’s a scary thought.
Also, with all the guides to hacking, malware and other digital tools meant to cause malicious effects, wouldn’t it be AI’s expertise to learn these digital recipes?
I have lots of imagination to be expressed. If we can use AI the right way, with good regulations, it could potentially be making everything better for us. Let’s hope for the best.
